To support you through all stages of the Medical Intern Application Process and to answer any questions you may have in relation to your application, we provide a full description of what you can expect and when it will happen. This Guide outlines the regulations under which the recruitment campaign will be run, what you are required to do when you are required to do it, what the next steps are and what you might expect to happen.
Overview of the Medical Intern Application Post Preference Selection Process for Intern Posts commencing July 2026
Post Preference Selection:
This is an online submission.
Applicants deemed eligible at Application Stage are now invited by National Recruitment Service (NRS) to proceed and submit post preference selections. This stage will be open from Monday 30th March 2026 until 12 noon Monday 13th April 2026 (Irish time). Applicants will be required to submit their Intern post choices and Intern Training Network preferences.

In Preparation for the Post Preference Selection Process:
What you will need:
- a PC/laptop/mobile device with internet access
- a valid email address
- access to a mobile telephone number from which you receive text messages
- Please note the online application is designed to display in most modern web browsers. NRS recommends that you ensure your PC/laptop/mobile device can support the following browsers: Mozilla Firefox, Chrome, Safari, and Edge (major versions released in the last year).
NRS recommends that you download all relevant documentation, as outlined below, to your PC/laptop/mobile device prior to commencing the Post Preference Selection Form.

In order to submit your post preference, you will need to complete the Online Post Preference Selection Form.
For best viewing experience we recommend using PC/Laptop
We recommend that you watch the video contained in Section B of the Online Post Preference Selection Form
There are mandatory questions in the Online Post Preference Selection Form. These are questions that all applicants must answer. If you do not answer the mandatory questions, the system will not allow you to submit your Form. An error message will appear on the relevant screen to highlight the question(s) remaining unanswered. Once all mandatory questions have been answered you will be able to submit your Online Post Preference Selection Form.
You must complete and submit the dedicated Online Post Preference Selection Form by the closing date and time of 12 noon Monday, 13th April 2026 (Irish Time).
No other versions of Post Preference Selections will be accepted e.g. written, postal, email, etc. Post Preference Selections will not be accepted after this date and time and no exceptions will be made
Please note the Online Post Preference Selection Form is designed to display in most modern web browsers. NRS recommends that you ensure your PC/laptop/mobile device can support the following browsers Mozilla Firefox, Chrome, Safari, and Edge (major versions released in the last year).
NRS strongly recommends that you take the opportunity to review your Post Preference Selection Form prior to submission to ensure the details contained within your Online Post Preference Selection Form are correct. You will have an opportunity to review your application prior to submission. Once you are satisfied that your form is complete, please ensure you select the SUBMIT button.
If you need to make changes to your submitted post preferences, you will need to restart the Post Preference Selection process as advised on the email invite of Monday 30th March 2026.
Once you click on the SUBMIT button, you will receive a receipt to the email address you have provided in your application. This is your receipt of your post preference selections and it is important that you retain it carefully.
If you don’t receive your email receipt of the submission, please check your Spam or Junk e-mail folder just in case the email receipt of the submission has been delivered there instead of your Inbox. If your email receipt of submission has gone to your Spam/Junk email folder, simply select the email and mark it Not Spam/Not Junk, this should allow future messages to get through to your Inbox.
Garda Vetting:
For candidates invited to initiate Garda Vetting, please ensure you have submitted your NVB1 form and supporting documents, and respond promptly to any requests for additional information from the Garda Vetting Team.

I have completed and submitted my Online Post Preference Selections – What happens next?
Once you click on the SUBMIT button, you will receive a receipt to the email address you have provided in your application. This is your submission email receipt and it is important that you retain it carefully. It is your record of proof that you applied for this stage of the recruitment campaign. If you need to make changes to your submitted application, you will need to restart the Post Preference Selection process as advised on the email invite of Monday 30th March 2026 .
If you don’t receive your email receipt of the submission or the email containing your completed submission, please check your Spam or Junk e-mail folder just in case the email receipt of the application has been delivered there instead of your Inbox. If your email receipt of submission has gone to your Spam/Junk email folder, simply select the email and mark it Not Spam/Not Junk, this should allow future messages to get through to your Inbox.
A single submission per individual is permitted. If you have submitted more than once, we will accept the last one received from you prior to the closing date and time.
If you don’t receive your email receipt of the submission or the email containing your completed preference selections, within 24 hours and you have checked your Inbox and Spam/Junk email folder(s), please contact the Helpdesk by clicking Helpdesk button below:
